Say hello to

Tony Turner

Tony has had a four-phase career providing a wide range of experience in many public and commercial environments.

Initially trained as a nuclear physicist, he found nuclear power stations not to his liking and nuclear weapons lacking appeal.

The result was that for half a working lifetime he worked in the education sector as a teacher, lecturer, senior manager and administrator. For many years he worked on regional and national projects. However, this all got replaced by an increasing interest in IT infrastructure, installing and maintaining large networks and the development of ICT in education.

This led to a move into the commercial sector and for a number of years he worked as a contractor for British Airways. This involved installing POS devices worldwide, configuring local networks and airline communications, training staff at all levels and training bank staff in all BA locations.

With the development of the Internet he started to lecture on Web development in Dublin at the time when DreamWeaver was king. Realising that there had to be a better way, he undertook the step of bypassing existing practise and, by contact with such visionaries as Eric Meyer, started working entirely as a Web Standards-based hand coder.

More than a decade later, he has an extensive portfolio including working for e-inbusiness (SpaceNK, Conran Shop, Planet, Jaques Vert, Windsmoor), Conchango (Virgin Atlantic), Black Sun and Regus. He has been the lead front end developer for the User Experience team at Vodafone. He has also developed a rich, private portfolio including London schools and UK SMEs. In addition he has developed sites for engineering companies, leisure and tourism and online shops for clothing retailers in Ireland.

For Ideal Interface he has developed the AAB Plc public and intranet sites, The French Cafe, Lone Star Comedy Club. His skills include (X)HTML, CSS and jQuery along with detailed knowledge of Content Management Systems such as Kentico, WordPress, SilverStripe, Cobra-cms, etc.
